“Tom” Prakas has created a successful real estate
company, stemming from his Greek roots and restaurateur background.

In
2000, Mr. Prakas established The Prakas Group, Inc., a
thriving commercial real estate brokerage company
specializing In restaurant, nightclub and commercial
properties throughout Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade
counties. For over 25 years before that, Tom Prakas owned
and operated 27 restaurants, nightclubs and sports bars throughout Ohio,
Atlanta, GA, and South Florida. Locally, Mr. Prakas was the
originator of alternative music clubs in Palm Beach, with the establishment of The Dark Side In Delray Beach and Moscow in West Palm Beach. He
also owned and operated The Spot, a sports/rock cafe in West Palm Beach,
and brought the popularity of cigar smoking to Boca Raton
by establishing The Cigar
Bar.

Shifting
from owner/operator to plant himself in the restaurant/nightclub real estate market was a natural fit for Mr. Prakas. “Someone who has been an owner knows the back of the house from the front of the house, knows the terminology,
and in the case of a restaurant purchase,

addition, Mr. Prakas recently represented
actor Danny DeVito’s investment group
for a new South Beach restaurant purchase/ lease for a new DeWto’s Italian Restaurant. Prakas
stretches beyond South Florida as well, as evidenced by his
recent lease transaction for a Taverna Opa location
in Las Vegas, NV.

dimension to his company and opened a Business Brokerage Division, specializing in the buying and selling of businesses including dry cleaners, salons, day care, automotive shops, and manufacturing companies doing between $2-7 million
dollars of volume.

A
resident of Delray Beach for the last 18 years, Mr. Prakas Is
originally from Portsmouth, Ohio. He grew up in Toledo and
Columbus, Ohio in a family of four boys.
Mr. Prakas is a member of St. Mark Greek
Orthodox Church in Boca Raton, where he
chaired the annual Greek Festival
for six years, and is a member of the
American Hellenic Educational
Progressive Association (AHEPA.) He is a
member of the Boca Raton Chamber of Com
merce, and the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Prakas balances his success while enjoying being the father of eight children and has celebrated his nine-teen

Athan “Tom” Prakas

Athan “Tom” Prakas is a Delray Beach resident and owner of The Prakas Group, Inc., a commercial real estate brokerage company specializing in restaurant, hospitality and commercial properties, headquartered in Boca Raton. Through his years of experience and remarkable vision for the industry, Prakas and his company continually make restaurant and real estate headlines, not only in South Florida but nationally.

Originally from Portsmouth, Ohio, Prakas grew up in Columbus and has 25 years experience in the restaurant, nightclub, and sports bar industry. He owned 27 popular establishments throughout Ohio, Georgia, and South Florida.

“I knew I wanted to be in the industry after I vacationed in Fort Lauderdale for spring break during college, and I even modeled one of my first nightclubs in Columbus, Ohio, after a nightclub in Fort Lauderdale,” said Prakas.

Locally, he was the originator of alternative music clubs in Palm Beach County with the establishment of The Dark Side in Delray Beach and Moscow in West Palm Beach and Delray Beach. He also owned and operated The Spot, a sports-rock cafe in West Palm Beach, and brought the popularity of cigar smoking to Boca Raton by establishing The Cigar Bar.

After many successful years and colorful experiences in the biz, Prakas decided to use his hands-on knowledge to open The Prakas Group in 2000. Prakas and his team have sold over 300 restaurants and commercial properties in the last seven years.

Prakas has established relationships with high profile names in the hospitality industry and exclusively represents Buckhead Life Restaurant Group for Florida locations including placing Chops Lobster Bar in Boca Raton. The Prakas Group also exclusively represents the successful Taverna Opa Greek restaurant concept in multiple Florida locations and Las Vegas, NV, and The David Manero Restaurant Group properties throughout South Florida. Prakas was also chosen as exclusive broker for one of Miami’s hottest new restaurants – DeVito’s in South Beach, which opened June 2007 to major fanfare, and sold La Vieille Maison, Boca Raton’s most famous French restaurant for over 30 years.
In other national accomplishments and as a true testament to Tom’s commanding pull in the industry, he was hand-picked by The Falcone Group, a privately held multi-billion dollar entity that specializes in a wide spectrum of real estate services primarily focusing on real estate development and investment funding, to be exclusive broker for the restaurant on the 37th floor of the prestigious 57-story tower, Two Liberty Place in Philadelphia, PA.

South Florida’s hottest restaurant corridors including Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach, Clematis Street in West Palm Beach, and Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale have all been enhanced by the Prakas touch. Prakas hopes to keep working closely with these cities and other developers to increase revenue and watch the areas flourish and grow.
